Frequently Asked Questions
  1. What's the best globe material type to use for a LED light source?

In the past Acrylic or Polycarbonate has traditionally been used. However, recent advancements/developments in resins has resulted in a new diffuse acrylic material referred to as LD Acrylic (Visual Comfort). This new acrylic greatly reduces the sharp pixelation effect often associated with LED diodes. Some of the other benefits also include: - High light transmittance of 90% to 94% (application dependent). - Impact modified and UV resistant with continuous operating temperature up to 90 ̊C. Decralite is in the process of updating their web site to reflect these new globes in the various series. In the interim, please feel free to contact us regarding availability of "Visual Comfort".

  2. How do I accurately measure the diamenter of a round globe for ordering a replacement?.

The easiest way is to stand the globe vertical on the floor against a flat surface eg: wall. At the same time using another flat surface eg: book, stand it vertical against the outside edge of the globe. Measure the inside measurement (I.D.) between the wall and book. NOW for the confusion. Generally the globe will measure under-size. If the inside measurement is for example 11" it's referred /considered a 12" globe for ordering purposes. Globes are offered in even increments of inches.

  3. Is the inside diameter of a post top fitter (globe holder) generally the same measurement as the O.D. (outside diameter) of the globe?

No. Generally the inside diameter of a globe holder will be approx. 1" larger/oversize than the O.D. (outside diameter) of the globe itself. EG: If the I.D. measurement of the globe holder is approx. 9" approx. it will accept a globe with a approx. neck diameter of 8"or there about.
